Gossip: Are They Serenading Each Other?

When I went through the musical interaction between Taylor Swift and Adam Young of Owl City, I have a feeling that they are serenading each other, back and forth, in their public albums.

It all started with the song Enchanted in Taylor’s 2010 album Speak Now, topped off with the hidden message “Adam.” Adam admitted that he felt that the song rang a bell, and in Valentine day 2011 he responded with a cover, with modified lyrics which made it a public serenade.

In her 2012 album Red, Taylor gave us this gem: I Almost Do. The message: “Wrote this instead of calling”. Some sources suggests that this song is intended for Jake Gyllenhaal but I think it is Adam. The opening reads:

I bet this time of night you’re still up.
I bet you’re tired from a long hard week.
I bet you’re sitting in your chair by the window looking out at the city.
And I bet sometimes you wonder about me.

It is well-known that Adam Young is an insomniac living in New York City. This almost justifies his band name: night owl of the city. After she heard his 2011 serenade she almost called Adam in the night, but she ended up wrote this song instead.

Adam replied with the song Up All Night in his recent EP, Ultraviolet. This song talked about love in the past, and when Adam last replied to Taylor, she was, sadly, taken. In the chorus:

You were my clarity, I swear
Alone in a daydream
Yeah there was magic in the air
And you were right here beside me
Held down like an angel with no wings
I wanna fly again
I just can’t get you off my mind
And now I’m gonna be up all night
Woah oh oh oh

He was excited to know that Taylor did have feelings to him, and he had the reverie of holding Taylor to him. But eventually,

A whisper on the air
Made my heart rate fall
When I heard you call
And I swear, I could hear your voice in my ear
But there was no one there at all

He calmed down from his little reverie and received the call, the song, from Taylor. He put her song on loop.

A new album is coming up from Taylor. Will she keep this serenading going on?
